This sampler was written with SHARING in mind. What does this mean? It means that if you make a good bank, and nicely sounding patches, you are encouraged to share it with the rest of the world, as in.. put it online for download :). Of course you are not obligated to do it, but it would be awesome if we all can share.
2.2 How to share a bank
Simply zip or targzip the entire directory of where your bank is. Remember that Chionic will store the bank file and the samples in a dir. To open that directory again, simply uncompress and open with Chionic.

3.2 Sad News.
I’m over with the development of chionic, on it’s first release. I have to sadly accept that as much as it works the way I want, I cant communicate my sequencer to chionic in the way I need (because Jackd is too poor to do it the proper way).
So in short, anyone who is interested in taking care of chionic for me and continuing development is MORE THAN WELCOME. I will gladly offer assistance on it’s development. Also, choinic and it’s Core/UI are separated at code level, so if you want to make a GTK app, or port it to Windows, it’s not a hard task. Just let me know, so…
CHIONIC IS DEAD UNTIL SOMEONE DECIDES TO PICK IT UP AND CONTINUE DEVELOPMENT (or until Jackd matures enough.. yeah right :)
3.3 What about Bugs?
So far nothing, I tried chionic for a while and it seemed to have no bugs, plus being perfectly functional. Those who know me know that I dont like to release half-baked software. Yet, I’m sure that many bugs will appear with time and I will not be able to fix them, still thought I can give insight to whoever is in charge of the project by then.
3.4 Future Additions:
I’d have liked to implement many things to chionic, in order of importance:
Automation support, but this is impossible.. maybe mapping to midi CCs but still very limited. Maybe when jack supports something for this in like.. 15 years.
Sf2/Giga/Etc importing.. which would have not been perfect, but still a great deal of help in creating banks. Also some better tools for moving Patches/Samples around?
Export individual midi channels in the Jack driver. This seems easy, but I never had time to do it. This is for those who want to later do the post processing in ardour or so on.
Better filters.. I couldnt figure out a way to increase the filter stages without taking a much bigger performance hit in the resampler.
No, no move to DSSi, this app is too complex to behave as separate UI/Core. I hope it servers as example of why you cant expect DSSi to handle this level of complexity. There’s just TOO much realtime feedback, for example the waveform and envelope pointers or the sample cache status.. or not to mention all the editor and waveform stuff.
